Sakakawea Monument - Mobridge, SD. Sacagawea's value as a guide and interpreter was immeasurable. She also gathered roots and other natural foods, and assured other tribes of the expedition's friendly nature by her mere presence. Sacagawea received nothing for her services but, nearly 200 years later, the government honored her memory by striking a beautiful "gold" one dollar coin.
